I was a Barista in Germany and I am obsessed with coffee and espresso related gadgets. This is my fifth French Press. I bought two (can't remember brand names) during the three years I was in Germany and I have bought two (both were Bodum) since May when I returned to the States. I received this as a Christmas present from my mom in Germany. I have only been using this press for about a week, but there are some major design features that set this press apart from the others that I have owned in the past.

Coffee stays hot for about an hour and warm for about an hour after that.
The way that the bottom is angled helps to keep grounds out of your coffee.
This press has an additional filter at the spout. I tested it by intentionally letting some grounds get into the coffee. The filter actually caught about 95% of them.
This may sound like the wrong adjective, but the main filter is very "sturdy". If you have ever had a press with a very flimsy filter, you'll understand.
The press is clear, which is great. I like to be able to see what I am doing.
The size is perfect. My last few presses were smaller. My husband and I didn't even get one full cup of coffee each. Now, we each get about one cup and one half.
I was worried that the metal handle would get hot, but this is not the case. All of the metal stays cool.
When you actually press the coffee, the filter barely has any play. (Tip: If yours is wobbly, you may need to tighten the filter, which is removable.)
This press looks beautiful. I used it on Christmas while my in-laws were over. I got many compliments.

To conclude, this seems to be a wonderful press. Most presses only seem to last about six months. I will update my review in about six months, when I know how well it holds up.

I used to have a Bodum French press, and even being careful, always managed to break the glass carafes. A clerk at a store that sells them even said she thought the company made them so thin on purpose - so that customers would have to keep buying replacements. I decided to research a new brand and ended up purchasing the Grosche Madrid. I love it! The glass seems to be thicker, and it is very well made and sturdy over all. I also think this design is a lot more attractive and certainly less common than the ones Bodum offers. The screen part that filters the grinds is very fine and fits perfectly. I am definitely a convert to Grosche.
And on another note, even though I chose standard shipping, I received this item the very next day after I placed the order - I don't even know how that's possible!

Sometimes pictures of some products can be a little misleading. That wasn't the case with this French press, as it's every bit as handsome as its pictures suggest. It's packaged in a beautiful box, which is very suitable for gift giving as well. The recipients will think you paid twice as much for it than you did! The press fits the chamber very well, and goes down smoothly.

Trust me, whenever someone sees this French press at your house, they will ask you where you got it, it's that pretty. And on top of that, it works beautifully too. WHat more could you want? You'll be happy with this French press, I certainly am.

I Just wish that they made it In a 12 oz size or a 16 oz size to make one coffee mug at a time instead of using a large press only half it's capacity. I find the right size press allows you to compress the beans better on the bottom if you use less grinds, and makes better coffee that way at the end of the day. If they ever come out with a small size in this press, I'll be sure to pick one up. until hen, I'm very happy with the Madrid press that i have!
